Everyone loves an origin story. What is ModernLoop and why did you start it?
While a product manager at Slack, Lydia built their integrations with both Zoom and with Google Calendar, two offerings that thousands of people now rely on every day. It’s abundantly clear to her that when products work together seamlessly and when technology can reduce the steps to get something done, people can achieve so much more in their jobs.

Meanwhile, her sister was the first technical recruiter at Brex. As her roommate for the last six years, Lydia saw that while she’s an incredibly strategic and thoughtful recruiter, she spent so much of her day doing manual, repetitive tasks. She wanted to take her prior experience of building seamless productivity hacks into the tools we rely on every day, and bring it to one of the most process-driven parts of a business: recruiting.

From this idea came ModernLoop.

What do you think ModernLoop does differently from your competitors?
One thing that really sets us apart is our focus on being not just a great scheduling tool, but a premier hiring experience platform. We care about the entire recruiting operations journey and how efficiency here can unlock the ability to consistently hire great talent and completely remove the manual burden bogging teams down.

We do this in a couple of ways:

For RecOps folks, what do you think are some key questions they should ask when evaluating Automated Scheduling Tools?

  • You’ll want to understand a few things while vetting automated scheduling tools..

    • How will it save your team time?

    • Does the algorithm do what it says it will do?

    • How well does it integrate with your other talent tools and communication systems?

    • How user friendly is the tool / how long will it take your team to learn how to use it?

    • What is the experience like from the end result for interviewers, hiring managers and candidates?

Part of RecOps is advocating for a tool to budget holders like Finance and TA Leadership. Imagine you are on the RecOps side of the fence. What arguments would you make for why you need to ModernLoop?
We love this question! The great thing about ModernLoop is the value it provides to different use cases and ability to adapt with companies as they grow and change.

For SMBs - Recruiters can truly do more with less. Whether your company has one recruiter or a small team, any recruiter can be completely full cycle with ModernLoop, with no need to hire RC.

For MM & Enterprise - ModernLoop can enable you to hire at scale while improving your efficiency. Using ModernLoop can increase your RC to recruiter ratio from 1RC > 4 recruiters to 1RC > 7 recruiters.

How do you think RecOps folks can help drive meaningful changes in the Automated Scheduling process?
RecOps teams are at a unique inflection point in the industry where they can be at the forefront of creating the future scheduling efficiency. Automation has been making everyone's lives easier and getting rid of manual tasks - but there’s still more work to be done!

RecOps folks are in the weeds with scheduling daily and can really inform meaningful product features and roadmaps with their feedback and keep automated scheduling processes really functional as technology evolves and companies change.

They also know what works and what doesn’t, and RecOps folks should always be involved with the vetting process for automated scheduling tools at their companies!

What do you wish people knew about the automated scheduling process that isn’t obvious / what kind of enablement do you think the RecOps team should drive?
Great question!

One thing we wish people knew is just how much time you can save when you move from manual scheduling to automated scheduling.

For example - most RecOps teams spend anywhere from 20-40 hours per week playing calendar Tetris…automation can reduce this to just a couple minutes per interview!

As far as driving enablement - RecOps teams have an enormous impact in changing a talent landscape within a company, especially when they aren’t bogged down by manual processes.

They should be positioned in a talent acquisition department so that they can drive change management, act as project managers and spearhead strategic projects. They are analysts looking at data, process improvers, candidate experience advocates and bridge builders between recruiters and interviewers and hiring managers.

Why do you think there is such complexity in the scheduling process?
I think that any time humans and time management are in the mix, there are going to be challenges!

If you’ve even been in a position that requires scheduling, you know that it’s an art - it’s stressful and it takes finesse. Everyone has different workflows, time blocks and preferences and these are just a few factors to juggle when creating an interview schedule.

Typically though, where we can find the most complication and complexity is when we see a lot of manual tasks and teams that don’t talk to each other well. With things like endless email back and forth, switching between tools and calendar views and accommodating many time zones. It’s super manual and the heat only gets turned up if you are scheduling at volume, too.

Who is your ideal customer?
We like to think our solution is flexible enough for everybody 😉But we have identified a couple of places ModernLoop is especially impactful…

  • SMB
    1) Teams looking to grow and need a tool to operate efficiently and support a small or limited talent function.
    2) Teams looking to provide a top notch candidate experience without limitless resources and attract exceptional talent

  • MM & Enterprise
    1) Teams looking to grow efficiently
    2) Teams looking to operate with fewer resources to sustain attrition and moderate growth
    3) Teams looking to have an improved, standardized candidate experience and interviewer training without all the manual work to get there
